HPCI News: New Greater Iowa Hospital Safety Scores available

New Hospital Safety Scores were just released by The Leapfrog Group. The letter grades rate hospitals on errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. Twenty-eight (28) measures were used to calculate the A, B, C, D or F grades for more than 2,500 U. S. hospitals. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

Highlights for hospitals in the greater Iowa market area are as follows:

  • Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames has received straight “A’s” since 2012
  • Five other Iowa hospital received an “A” this time: Finley Hospital, Dubuque; Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids; Mercy Medical Center of Clinton; Mercy Medical Center of Dubuque and Spencer Hospital
  • Other hospitals in greater Iowa receiving an “A”: CHI Health Immanuel, Omaha; Mayo Clinic – Franciscan, La Crosse; and OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg
  • Two Iowa hospitals received an “F”: Mercy Medical Center of Des Moines and Mercy Medical Center – West Lakes, West Des Moines
